Overview

MEETS CARE CERTIFICATE STANDARD 13

Course aim:

To provide staff working in Health and Social Care with a refresher course on the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to carry out their jobs in a safe and effective manner whilst complying with current legislation

Target audience:

This course is suitable for all staff working in the Health & Social Care sector who are involved with the safe handling of people with and without the use of equipment. This course will update their awareness of the legislation, regulations, risk assessment process and principles of moving and handling.

Learning objectives:

On completion of the training, successful candidates will have:
• An awareness of the relevant Health & Safety legislation
• An awareness of the anatomy and biomechanics of the spine
• An awareness of how back injuries are caused
• Identified the principles of safer Moving & Handling of people with mobility problems
• An awareness of the process of Risk Assessment and its relevance to them
• Practical session – using safe techniques to support people to mobilise/transfer, with and without equipment

Teaching and Assessment:

The course combines tutorials and demonstrations with student centred methods such as discussions, group work, question and answer sessions.

Certification:

A certificate of competence will be awarded on successful completion of the course. This will be valid for 1 year.
