General Information

I am a male in my late 30s and I live with my teenage son at home.  I am an insulin dependent Diabetic and I have a vision impairment and reduced mobility.  I am a wheelchair user but lead an active life attending voluntary activities and participation in health and disability related groups in Medway.

It is the job of my Personal Assistant to assist in meeting my personal, social and domestic needs as a disabled person, and any other day-to-day requirements or activities, and as a result of this assistance I hope to lead an individual, independent and active life in my own home and the community.

As my Personal Assistant you should be able to handle the physical tasks of lifting, handling, pushing and bending, unless otherwise stated, you do not need to be physically strong to do certain tasks well, but it does help together with good general health.

You will need to have a current driving licence and an ability to drive a manual large vehicle.


Below is a list of some of the takes I will require your support with:

getting in and out of bed

dressing and undressing

washing and bathing/showering

attention to hair, skin, nails, feet, eyes etc.

transferring in and out of bed/wheelchair with assistance

food preparation and cooking meals

shopping and household/domestic routines

dealing with paperwork, bills and letters

taking part in social/leisure activities and occasions

personal support with voluntary work

driving duties over short and long distances

As you will be meeting my personal needs, for the most part the assistance required will be learnt through us working together however when required practical training and guidance will be provided. Online Safeguarding training will be provided and must be completed prior to employment start date.


Training to be provided following probation period:

Moving and handling

Medication Administration including eye drops and insulin

Maintaining skin integrity and wound care

Catheter Care

Acute management of illness

Maintenance of psychological wellbeing




Rate of Pay £ £9.00 rising to £9.50 after successful probation

Hours of Work

Monday to Sunday

0900 – 1300

1700 – 1830

2100 – 2230

Plus two hours per week to support access to the community

These shifts will be covered by a team of PAs across the week.

Additional shifts will be required to cover PA annual leave and occasional increased need.

Two references and an Enhanced DBS Check must be received prior to the employment start date and only suitable applicants will be employed.

This employment is subject to Safer Recruitment practice and all employees must undertake online Safeguarding Training.
